Tourism through San Jose, Costa Rica is just coming off one of its busiest seasons ever and it is never too early to plan your trip to enjoy the green season (which runs through November) or maybe coming during the summer season between November and April. Coming from United States there are many options and they are getting better, clearance at the airport is getting faster and travel to the beautiful beaches of the Pacific coast is also getting faster.
Getting to Costa Rica. US connections are with all the major US airlines through cities like Atlanta, Baltimore, Charlotte, Chicago, Denver Houston, Fort Lauderdale, Los Angeles, Miami, Newark, New York, Orlando, Philadelphia, Phoenix, San Francisco, Seattle and Washington DC (Dulles). So if you live near one of these direct flight cities or can easily connect please keep the Pacific coast of Costa Rica in mind.
Costa Rica is doing a much better job at the immigration desk, processing is much faster. Visas are not required for US citizens to enter Costa Rica; all you need is a return ticket.
Once in CR there are several airlines (Sansa, Green Airways) at the domestic terminal which is a short walk from the international terminal, that fly direct from San Jose to Quepos in 25 minutes making it a quick trip to the Pacific Coast and about 45 minutes away from Alma. The Alma Hotel staff would be happy to line up a transportation service in advance for a beautiful ride through the tropical jungles of Costa Rica on the edge of the mountains to the Pacific coast.
Once at the hotel car rental is very easy where the rental car companies will both drop off and pick up your car at the hotel. Of course drivers are always available to take you wherever you would like to go on a fun day trip.
